Bio
I am a writer and a traveller. I have authored several books, e.g. Dom ojców (The House of Our Fathers), which was nominated for several awards, including the Nike Literary Award and the “Angelus” Central European Literature Award. My work has also been nominated for, among others, the Polityka Passport Award, and, thrice, for the Gdynia Literary Prize. I was the first recipient of the Ryszard Kapuściński “Herodot” Foundation scholarship.
My debut in the field of poetry was a volume titled a. My work has been published in National Geographic, Przekrój, Gazeta Wyborcza, Tygodnik Powszechny, Teatr, Pismo, Znak, and others. Translations of my texts have appeared in Burmese newspapers, e.g. The Myanmar Times, and, in English, in the monthly magazine Irrawaddy, published in Southeast Asia. My fiction has been translated for literary magazines in English, German, Russian, Czech, and Ukrainian.
In writing I draw on my many travel experiences, for instance the journey into the Myanmar Himalaya, for which I received the “Kolosy” award, given for outstanding accomplishments in that field. I have traversed the Atacama Desert on foot, alone, without external back-up, over two weeks. I have also led an expedition, under the auspices of WWF Gabon, through the Minkébé forest; it received a written recommendation from the Royal Geographical Society in London, and subsequently a National Geographic “Traveler” award for the feat of the year.
I created an open-air exhibition titled “Praduszki”, where I used urban space to display images of prehistoric humans, reconstructed by French paleo-artist Élisabeth Daynès.
I was born in 1984. I grew up in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, where I now run a small farm. I work as an attorney-at-law.
